What is Enough?

What is Enough?

Human wants are unlimited! We want a bigger house, more wealth, more stuff – it’s never enough. And that is how the world works.

More means competition, ambition, innovation and success. Isn’t that the basis of human evolution – survival of the fittest? So seeking more is hard wired in the human psyche and has a biological basis.

So what about being content or appreciative and grateful for what we have? Can you seek more and still be content? Is that an oxymoron? A paradox?

My approach is to seek balance. There is no right or wrong in this situation. There are only extremes and a hypothetical balance. There is noting wrong with being ambitious and competitive and similarly there is nothing wrong with being appreciative of what one has accomplished in life. Both human traits should play a prominent role in your life.

Sometimes in the rush to achieve and acquire – we forget to appreciate. Appreciating our lives, our freedom and our lifestyle. There is a lot to be thankful about and periodic reflection on that facet can be a step towards striking the right balance in your life.

Happy Thanksgiving!
